Monday, June 29, 2009- At 20:04 Moosup Fire Department was dispatched to Potvin Avenue for a vehicle fire with an exposure problem. Engine Tank 194 under the direction of Captain Pye (Car 394) was just finishing up with company training in the area of Daggett Street and North Potvin Avenue and arrived seconds after dispatched. The engine crew stretched a 1-3/4" line containing the fire to the engine compartment. Units cleared the scene at 20:22 Sunday, June 28, 2009- At 05:22 Moosup Fire Department was dispatched to Sterling Hill Road in the Oneco section of Sterling for a reported structure fire. While en route QVEC updated responding units that they had received several calls reporting a working fire. First arriving Moosup Assistant Chief Bellavance (Car 294) reported heavy smoke showing from a 1-1/2 story wood frame building. ET-194 and Ladder 194 responded on the run. On arrival the crew from ET-194 stretched a 1-3/4” line into the building quickly locating and extinguishing the fire in a bathroom on the first floor. The crew from Ladder 194 split to complete the tasks of ventilation and checking for extension in the upper levels of the home. Moosup units cleared the scene at 06:44.
Tuesday, February 24, 2009- At 03:51 the Moosup Fire Department was dispatched for the report of smoke coming from the basement on Union Street. Ladder 194 under the direction of Captain Pye (Car 394) arrived on scene and reported a working basement fire in a 2-1/2 story wood frame duplex and requested a first alarm. Central Village (ET-197 / ET-297), Atwood Hose (ET-196 / HT-196), Plainfield (ET-295) and the Danielson FAST responded to the scene. Chief Theriault (Car 94) arrived on scene minutes later reporting heavy smoke throughout the building and established Moosup Command. ET-194 laid a 5” supply line from a hydrant on Union Street to supply L-194. Crews made a push on the fire but due to the balloon frame construction fire had already found its way to the upper levels of the building. After heavy fire took hold of the second floor and attic Command ordered all crews out of the building, and unit’s setup up for defensive operations. Command special called Danielson (TW-161) which worked with L-194 in bringing the fire under control. Friday, January 23, 2009- At 12:44 a first alarm assignment was dispatched for the report of house fire on Lathrop Road in Plainfield. First arriving Moosup Deputy Chief Yellen (Car 194) reported heavy smoke showing. As the first apparatus arrived on scene heavy fire took hold of the building, crews placed several hand lines and master streams off Ladder 194 into service. Plainfield Chief Hutchinson (Car 95) requested additional mutual aid tankers to support fire suppression activities, this is a non-hydranted area of the district. The fire was brought under control in about an hour. Moosup units cleared the scene at 17:00.
Friday, October 7, 2008- For the past month members of the Moosup Fire Department have been attending specialized rescue training. Instructors from the Connecticut State Fire Academy have been on hand teaching members from Moosup, Central Village, Atwood Hose and Plainfield. The course instructed our members on site operations, scene size-up, resource management, hazard/risk assessment, and incident command of rescue operations. Members learned skills on how to anchor rope systems, build and operate lowering and hauling systems in a low angle environment, and use rope rescue equipment to manage victims. This training again shows the commitment of our local fire departments and their dedicated members in protecting our community. Saturday, October 25, 2008- Moosup Fire Department attended the 2nd Annual Fall Festival at the Moosup Little League Field. The event included games, hay rides for the children and demonstrations by the National Guard and Connecticut State Police. Moosup members spent the day handing out fire prevention material and displaying our apparatus. Saturday, October 11, 2008- Today Ladder 194 joined Truck 2 from Rocky Hill in Norwich for the annual firefighters mass at Saint Patrick's Cathedral. The ladder trucks supported the American flag used in the ceremony. Thank you to the mass committee for inviting Ladder 194 to participate in this special event. MOOSUP ELEMENTARY Wednesday, October 8, 2008- Department members spent the morning with the students at the Moosup Elementary School. Every year during Fire Prevention week the Moosup Fire Department educates our local students on fire safety. Special thanks to Lieutenant Hebert for organizing another successful and well attended event.
