BRUSH FIRE
Friday, April
25, 2008- At 13:30 hours Moosup Fire Department was dispatched
for a mutual aid brush fire assignment on Lathrop Road in
Plainfield. The fire which burned approximately 8 acres, was located
on a hillside with limited access. Moosup units operated on scene
until 18:30 hours.

MUTUAL AID
BUILDING FIRE ONECO
Wednesday, April
23, 2008- At 12:34 Moosup Fire Department was dispatched
on a first alarm assignment to Plainfield Pike, in the Oneco section
of Sterling for a reported chicken coop fire. First arriving Oneco
units reported a well involved 60' x 100' coop with brush fires and
exposures. The assignment was upgraded with numerous tankers from
CT, and RI responding to establish a water supply. On arrival ET-194
positioned in an adjacent driveway to provide exposure protection to
a nearby garage and home. Moosup units cleared the scene at 15:30.

MUTUAL AID FAST ASSIGNMENT TO BROOKLYN
Saturday, April
19, 2008- Just after crews had returned to quarters from a small
brush on North Sterling Road, a first alarm assignment was
dispatched for a structure fire on Gorman Road, in the Mortlake
section of Brooklyn. Ladder 194 responded as a FAST truck on the
run. Minutes after the dispatch, Car 190 (Mortlake Deputy Chief
Breen) arrived on scene, and reported a 1-1/2 story residential wood
frame, that was fully involved. Ladder 194 arrived and setup on the
"A" side of the building with Central Village. Due to the heavy fire
conditions and stability of the building no interior operations were
performed, units operated several hoselines from the exterior, and
the ladder pipe on
L-190 to bring the fire under control. Moosup units cleared the
scene at 20:00. |

NEXT STOP
FOR LADDER 194.....DANIELSON
Wednesday, April 2, 2008-
A few hours after returning from Plainfield. Moosup Fire Department
was dispatched to a working house fire on North Main Street, in the
borough of Danielson. Shortly after Ladder 194 arrived on scene
"Danielson Command" assigned the crew to assist with exposure
protection on the "D" side of the building. The fire was knocked
down quickly, and the ladder crew assisted in ventilation and
overhaul before being released by "Command" at 22:30.

MUTUAL AID TO
PLAINFIELD
Wednesday, April 2, 2008-
At 13:10 the working fire assignment was toned for a garage fire on
Lovers Lane, in the Plainfield Fire District. Moosup Fire Department
responded with Ladder 194 and Engine Tank 294. First arriving Car
194 (Deputy Chief Yellen) reported a well involved 20' x 20'
outbuilding with several exposures. Due to dry conditions and high
winds several acres of brush and debris in the surrounding area was
also burning. The crew from the L-194 assisted with suppression,
while ET-294 shuttled water from a nearby water source on Cemetery
Road. Moosup units returned at 15:00.

MUTUAL AID TO CENTRAL
VILLAGE
Sunday, March 24, 2008-
At 22:40 Moosup Fire was dispatched mutual aid to Central Village
for a reported structure fire. First arriving Car 197 (Deputy
Chief Lapierre) reported a well involved mobile home and established
"Central Village Command". Ladder 194 and Engine Tank 294 arrived
moments after Central Village units. The crew from L-194 assisted
with suppression while ET-294 established a water supply for ET-197.
Moosup units returned at 00:45.

GARAGE FIRE IN THE ALMYVILLE
SECTION
Monday, March 3, 2008- At
00:45 Moosup Fire Department was alerted to a reported garage
fire on North Main Street, in the Almyville section of Moosup. The
first alarm was filled out bringing Stations 97, 96, 95 and 61 FAST.
Car 94 (Chief Theriault) arrived on scene moments later and reported
a well involved 20'x30' garage with an exposure on the "D" side and
established "Moosup Command". First arriving L-194 positioned to
provide exposure protection. Command instructed ET-197 to enter
driveway and stretch a line to knock down the main body of fire.
Additional crews from Station 96 assisted in checking exposures for
extension and overhaul. Command placed the incident under control at
01:15. The "D" side exposure received heat damage to vinyl siding,
but there was no extension to the interior of the residence. Moosup
units returned at 02:30.

MUTUAL AID FAST ASSIGNMENT TO CANTERBURY
Sunday, February 24, 2008-
At 12:04 QVEC dispatched the Canterbury Fire Department with mutual
aid from Central Village, Scotland, Plainfield ET-295, and Moosup
FAST for a reported garage fire on Westminster Road. First arriving
Engine 193 reported heavy fire in an attached 2 car garage. The
first line stretched was able to hold the fire from extending to the
living space, while additional lines knocked down the main body of
fire in the garage. The crew from Ladder 194 split keeping one crew
for FAST and second assisted in opening up and overhaul. Moosup
units returned at 14:00.

MUTUAL AID TO CANTERBURY
Saturday,
January 26, 2008- At 13:06 QVEC dispatched the Canterbury Fire
Department along with mutual aid from Central Village, Scotland,
Plainfield ET-295, and Moosup (FAST) for a reported electrical fire
in the cafeteria of the Dr. Helen Baldwin School on Westminster
Road. Arriving Canterbury units reported the building evacuated and
nothing visible from the exterior. Ladder 194 arrived on scene and
staged for instructions. Shortly after Canterbury Chief Kasacek
(C-93) requested the ladder crew to the roof to inspect HVAC units,
while crews from Canterbury and Central Village searched the
interior of the building. Inspection of the roof units found no
apparent problems . Moosup units returned at 13:45. |

Saturday, January
19, 2008- Many members past and present gathered tonight at the
fire station, to celebrate a yearly tradition of the Moosup Fire
Department. The evening began with a social hour, then a delicious
meal served by Matthew's Catering, followed by an awards
presentation. This year MFD presented Life Membership awards to
Donald Potvin and William Nadeau for 50 years of service, and Aram
Bissonnette for 25 years of service. Retired Captain Ed Despathy was
also recognized for his many years of service as our Truck Captain.
Special thanks to the Central Village Fire Company for providing
coverage during the event.

Monday, January 7, 2008- The Chiefs of the MFD prepared
and served a pasta dinner for the members. The meal was held as a
thank you, to all of our members for their dedication and commitment
to the Moosup Fire Department. |

MUTUAL AID CHIMNEY FIRE
Friday, January
4, 2008- Around 06:15 QVEC dispatched Plainfield Fire Company
along with automatic mutual aid from Moosup Fire Department for a
chimney fire on Lovers Lane. MFD responded with Ladder 194 and
ET-294. On arrival Car 95(Plainfield Chief Hutchinson) assigned the
ladder crew to roof operations. Units cleared the scene at
07:30. |

Tuesday, January 1, 2008- At
17:22 Moosup Fire Department along with the Moosup Ambulance were
dispatched to a vehicle rollover on Prospect Street. Rescue 494 and
ET-194 responded, enroute QVEC advised units Plainfield Police was
on scene reporting no injuries. Upon arrival Moosup FD secured the
vehicle and assisted with traffic. Units cleared the scene at 18:00.

Tuesday, January 1, 2008- At 08:56 Moosup Fire Department was dispatched to a kitchen
fire on Daggett Street. QVEC advised responding units the
calling party has reported the fire to be extinguished.
Ladder 194 and ET-194 responded to the scene. Upon arrival
units found an aquarium that had caught fire with slight
extension into kitchen cabinets. The homeowner used water
from the aquarium to extinguish the fire. Units checked for
extension and assisted the FMO. Moosup FD cleared the scene
at 09:30.

Monday, December 24, 2007- At 13:51
Moosup Fire Department was dispatched for a tractor trailer rollover on
the Exit 89 NB off ramp. Upon arrival units a found tractor trailer on
it's side. The driver was transported by R-594 to Backus Hospital.
Moosup units worked on scene with CSP, DEP, and DOT to contain diesel
fuel leaking from saddle tanks and assist with traffic control. Heavy
equipment was brought in to offload the trailer which was carrying tires
and remove the vehicle. Moosup units cleared the scene at 19:00.

FIRST HEAVY SNOW OF THE
SEASON = BUSY DAY FOR MFD
Thursday, December 13, 2007- As the
first heavy snow of the season hit the Northeast, Moosup Fire was kept
busy with a variety of calls. Station 94 logged 8 runs by 18:30.
The day started out with 3 EMS calls, MVA on I-395, 2 more EMS runs, M/A
for a possible electrical fire, and a vehicle fire.

SECOND FIRE IN 12 HOURS
MUTUAL AID TO CENTRAL VILLAGE
Sunday, December 2, 2007- Around 23:40 QVEC received a call reporting a structure fire on East
Shepard Hill Road in the 97 District. The caller was advised to evacuate
the building and the assignment was dispatched bringing Station 97, 94,
96, and 95(FAST) to the scene. Car 197(Deputy Chief Lapierre) arrived
moments later and reported a working fire on the 2nd floor "D" side of a
2 story wood frame. ET-197 arrived and stretched a 150' 1-3/4" bumper
line to the fire floor. L-194 arrived on scene and was instructed to
open the roof. The crew split sending one crew to the roof and the
second crew provided a back-up line. The fire was knocked down quickly
and shortly after "Command" returned units with the exception of 97 and
94 which held for overhaul and to assist the FMO. All remaining units
cleared the scene at 02:30.

Sunday, December 2, 2007-At 13:30 QVEC
received a call reporting a structure fire on Brunswick Avenue in
Moosup. Station 94, 97, 96, and 95/61 FAST were dispatched to the scene.
